Source?To?Sink Aeolian Fluxes From Arid Landscape Dynamics in the Lut Desert

We analyze major landforms of the Lut Desert in Iran to provide a comprehensive source-to-sink picture aeolian systems on time scales from decades millions years. map modern sandflows, along which we evaluate volume and chronology associated with excavation mega-yardangs upwind formation giant dunes downwind. Sediment discharges deduced long-term erosion deposition are same order magnitude (105–106 m3 yr?1) as short-term medium-term sand derived wind data dune morphodynamics. At scale internal sediment-routing system Lut, establish an overall sediment budget constrained by joint development erosional depositional landforms. Our findings thus quantify geomorphic controls processes arid landscapes at multiple length scales, while providing information mass exchanges between continents atmosphere.
